Free virtual screening of the feature film "Salma's Home," directed by Palestinian filmmaker Hanadi Elyan.

Screening will start at 12:00 Noon US EDT; 18:00 Palestine, 17:00 Europe, Running Time 95 minutes, 2022, Arabic with English subtitles. The film screening will be followed by discussions with film director Hanadi Elyan.

SYNOPSIS:
SALMA’s HOME film is set in Jordan and revolves around three women with disnct personalies. SALMA (Juliet Awad) is a talented baker living alone in a large old house overlooking downtown Amman running a nonprofitable home-based bakery, her daughter FARAH (Sameera Asir) is a young working mother with marital problems with husband Malek (Firas Taybeh) . Their lives are disrupted by the death of Salma’s ex-husband. The funeral takes place at his current wife’s house, LAMIA (Rania Kurdi), an aspiring socialite who is obsessed with building her brand online. Afer the funeral, Uncle Emad (Waleed Jizawi) brings shocking facts to light leading to territorial clashes and finally forcing the three women to accept some harsh realies and take control of their lives.

ABOUT DIRECTOR HANADI ELYAN
Writer / director Hanadi Elyan, is a Palesnian-Jordanian filmmaker whose work focuses on the social issues facing marginalized communies from a female perspecve. Hanadi's films competed in film fesvals around the world. She started her film career in Jordan, then she moved to Dubai and established Reel Arab Producons. Later, she moved to Los Angeles aer being selected for a full ride scholarship, where she earned her MFA in Film Producon / Direcng from UCLA. Based in Boston, Massachuses, Hanadi currently serves as Assistant Professor of Narrave Film Direcng at Emerson College. She has previously won numerous funds and awards for her films, including Jordan Film Fund for her films; Salma’s Home and The Camp Beauty Queen, Hollywood Foreign Press Associaon Award, Delia Salvi Memorial award, Special Jury award at Tangiers Film Fesval for Mariam's Chance, George Burns and Gracie Allen Scholarship Fellowship in Comedy and The UCLA Directors Spotlight Award.
