Please join us for a virtual session of open discussion about Palestinian topics.

This week, we come to you live from Ireland, the only western country that fully supports Palestinian rights and stands by Palestinians on the world stage. We talk to an Irish poet, writer and actor. She will read to us one of her most moving poems about Palestine. We also speak with the founders of a very successful Palestinian cafe in Cork, Ireland, about their business and Irish hospitality and support of Palestine.

About Sorcha Fox
Sorcha is a poet, actor, writer and facilitator.

Thanks to the UNESCO New Work Award and a residency at The Dock arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon, Sorcha wrote and performed Remember, a 35 minute poetic piece with live original music for Lingo: A Spoken Word Festival, in 2016.

Sorcha has twice been the recipient of an Irish Arts Council Bursary Award. She was Theatre Artist in Residence at The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton with her project Who is Manorhamilton? and Artist in Residence at The Dock in Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim.

Sorcha acts and storylines for Irish language soap Ros na Rún on TG4.

She wrote her first Spoken Word play; For Rachel - 2 Squirrels, as part of the Home Theatre Ireland project in Draíocht, Dublin 2018 for the Dublin Theatre Festival and wrote a play for Draíocht Youth Theatre called ‘Trust’ that was performed in Draíocht in 2019.

Sorcha has worked on a longterm project with the women in recovery in Ashleigh House called ‘Amplify’ thanks to Draíocht, the Arts Council and Create Ireland.

In 2019, in collaboration with the Hawkswell Theatre Sligo, she took part in a creative residency with Palestinian poet Rafeef Ziadah culminating in a performance on Culture Night 2019 of a new piece called ‘Medusa’ with live original music from Dee Armstrong and Lughaidh Armstrong Mayock. ‘Medusa’ is now being developed further with the support of Hawkswell Sligo.

She wrote commissioned poetry pieces for The Hawkswell Sligo Come Together project, Ireland May, 2020 with original music by Seamie O’Dowd. She performed Rosaleen McDonagh’s piece “Ireland you will hardly notice my absence” for the Abbey Theatre’s Dear Ireland project in 2020 and played the role of Julia in the full Production of Walls and Windows in 2021.

As co-director of Benbo Productions she directed, produced or performed in Jimmy Joyced, The Cambria, Jimmy Gralton’s Dancehall, Little Thing, Big Thing (Fishamble) , Fionnuala (winner of the Fringe First in Edinburgh) and The Adventures of The Wet Senor (winner of The Prix Europa) by Donal O’Kelly winning awards in New York and Edinburgh for acting. She performed the role of Molly in Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall. She has toured to New York, L.A, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Adelaide with these plays.

In 2020, Sorcha facilitated The Bed project as part of the Cairde Festival with Amir Abualrob, Charmaine T. Matonsi, Abigail Ramaabya, Wasekere-Sekerani, Nokwanda Siziba, Grace Moyo, Donal O’Kelly mentored by Rafeef Ziadah.

This year, Sorcha performed in Fibín’s first Irish language play at The Taibhearc as part of their 3 year residency there – Baile Beag Mór.

Sorcha is a member of the team that organizes PalFest Ireland, an Irish arts festival in support of Palestine. In 2017, she travelled to Jenin Refugee Camp in Northern Palestine where she completed a course in Theatre and Cultural Resistance with The Freedom Theatre. She composed and performed Sadah/Echo for the Cairde Festival in 2021. She has worked as a writing facilitator on Amir Abualrob’s project Taa Marbuta supported by Create Ireland. She directed Amir’s week long residency project with The Hawkswell entitled The Road. In 2021 she and Amir collaborated on the One of Many Project, supported by The Arts Council, working with people who have experienced homelessness and statelessness using the tools of physical theatre, writing and Cultural Resistance for the purpose of empowerment.

The Irish Road is planned for this year, an expansion and development of the One of Many project. Sorcha is currently in rehearsal for Gare St Lazare's production of Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses which will be performed in Smock Alley, Dublin for Dublin Theatre Festival 2022.
