Dr. Qumsiyeh taught at Duke and Yale and upon returning to Palestine founded the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability.

About Dr. Qumsiyeh

Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh is a renowned Palestinian scholar and activist known for his tireless efforts in promoting justice, equality, and freedom for the Palestinian people. With an impressive academic background and a deep commitment to his cause, Dr. Qumsiyeh has become a leading voice in advocating for Palestinian rights on both national and international platforms.
Born and raised in Beit Sahour, a town near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, Dr. Qumsiyeh grew up witnessing the daily struggles, injustices, and humiliations endured by Palestinians living under Israeli occupation. These experiences shaped his determination to seek knowledge and stand up against oppression, becoming a driving force in his academic pursuits and activism.
Having obtained his Ph.D. in Genetics from Duke University in the United States, Dr. Qumsiyeh embarked on a distinguished career in academia. He served as a professor at various universities, both in the United States and Palestine, while also conducting extensive research in the fields of biodiversity and environmental conservation. Dr. Qumsiyeh's work has significantly contributed to our understanding of the impact of environmental factors on human health, particularly in areas affected by conflict.
However, it is Dr. Qumsiyeh's unwavering dedication to the Palestinian cause that truly sets him apart. Recognizing the power of education and knowledge in empowering individuals and communities, he has committed himself to educating the world about the realities of the Palestinian struggle. Dr. Qumsiyeh has authored numerous publications and books that shed light on the historical, political, and social aspects of Palestine, providing an invaluable resource for researchers, students, and activists.
As an activist, Dr. Qumsiyeh has been engaged in grassroots initiatives aimed at raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and promoting peaceful coexistence in the region. Through his involvement in organizations such as the Palestinian Center for Rapprochement Between People, Dr. Qumsiyeh has facilitated encounters between Palestinians and people from all walks of life, encouraging understanding, empathy, and solidarity.
