Luisa Morgantini is an Italian former Vice President of the European Parliament. She was elected as an independent with a left wing group. But in her long life has been a TradeUnionist in the Metalworkers Union, active as human rights defender in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, in supporting the liberation movement in Africa, in Latin America, against the war in Vietnam. She acted as spokesperson for the Peace Movement in Italy and one of the founders of women in black international network against war and violence. She started to get involved in Palestine after the massacre of Sabra and Chatila. Before the first Intifadah she started to go to Palestine (except from 1989 and 1994, when she was denied entry by Israel to enter Palestine), she is still going.
Morgantini arranges, since the first Intifadah, solidarity visits to Palestine for Italians from all ranges of society, to see with their own eyes the real life that the palestinian endorse under military occupation, in order to change the Israeli narrative. "Going there to be active here" is the motto. More than Eighty-year old Morgantini crisscrosses Italy , Palestine and other parts of Europe on a daily basis to stand with International legality and denounce the politics of occupation, colonization and apartheid that oppress the palestinian people.
