"I Witness Silwan," Art and Resistance in Occupied Jerusalem -- A Community and International Solidarity Public Art Project

Join members of I Witness Silwan, Zuhier Rajabi, Taqi Spateen and others not named for security reasons via zoom and Dr. Susan Greene in person to hear about this unique project.

Everywhere you walk in Silwan, occupied Jerusalem, sets of enormous eyes are watching, bearing witness. The eyes belong to local heroes, international leaders, philosophers, activists, revolutionaries, writers, and artists—figures who are known around the world, including Ghassan Kanafani, Malcolm X, Rachel Corrie and Shiren Abu Akleh. The eyes have been painted by international artists and Palestinian artists including Sliman Mansour. Murals of red poppies, Palestine's national flower, dot the hillside. Many square meters of community murals reflecting Palestinian heritage and traditions, along with large murals painted with children have dramatically transformed neighborhoods.
