Please join us for the opening of a special exhibit about the Palestinian thobe featuring 20 thobes selected from the Museum’s textile collection, several embroidery pieces, artwork depicting thobes and tatreez, and several photographs of diaspora Palestinian women clad tin a variety of new styles of thobes. Featured artwork includes works by the following artists: Renate Ghannam, Samar Husseini, Maher & Irina Naji, Halima Aziz, Maysaloun Faraj, and Tabea Marie Kerschbaumer.
Hanan Karaman Munayyer
Hanan Karaman Munayyer, a Palestinian-American, is co-founder and president of the Palestinian Heritage Foundation. She has researched and lectured on Palestinian textile arts for over twenty years. Hanan is also the author of Traditional Palestinian Costume: Origins and Evolution, a book that is considered the ultimate authority on Palestinian throbes and embroidered textiles.
At this event, Hanan will (virtually) review the twenty thobes in the exhibit identifying the style and origin of each thobe.
