Observing how antisemitism is sometimes leveraged by the state to justify violence against Palestinians or to suppress legitimate critique of Israeli policies feels deeply unsettling. This dynamic raises concerns about not only the treatment of Palestinians but also the broader implications for freedom of expression in Germany. Our guest seeks to engage with everyday Germans, fostering a dialogue that unpacks these issues and encourages a collective reflection on the events in Germany and Israel-Palestine.

Suzanna Treumann

Suzanna Treumann is a Dutch Jewish artist and peace activist currently residing in Munich, Germany. Born and raised in the Netherlands, she pursued her studies at AKI (University of the Arts), where she honed her artistic skills.

Coming from a lineage of artists, Suzanna's creative roots run deep. Her father, René Treumann, is a graphic artist who runs a studio and shop called "Typique" in the heart of Amsterdam. Her artistic influences extend to her aunt, Babette Treumann, an artist renowned for her tapestries and paintings, and her grandfather, Otto Treumann, a distinguished graphic designer, also known for creating the EL AL logo. Her grandmother, Jettie Olivier made fashion drawings and illustrations for the newspapers. Both grandparents were in the resistance during WWII.

In 2019, the exhibition 5 x Treumann in the Jewish museum in Fürth in Germany showed the work of these five members of the Treumann family.

Suzanna's commitment to art is matched by her dedication to education. She served as a museum guide at Rijksmuseum Twenthe in Enschede, the Netherlands, where she crafted engaging tours and presentations for visitors of all ages. Her work has also been showcased in exhibitions at this respected institution, allowing her to share her artistic vision with a broader audience. Through her art and activism, Suzanna Treumann continues to contribute to the cultural landscape while promoting peace and understanding for all people.
