Lecture: Aida Touma-Sliman, Palestinian Member of Knesset

  • Palestine Museum US 1734 Litchfield Turnpike Woodbridge, CT, 06525 United States (map)

Aida Touma-Sliman, Palestinian member of the Israeli Knesset, will discuss the Knesset's recent vote to formally strip Palestinians living in Israel of equal citizenship (these Palestinians comprise 20% of the population of Israel proper). MK Touma-Sliman—a prominent feminist activist, founder of the Women Against Violence Association and former editor of Al-Ittihad newspaper—heads the Knesset's Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women. She recently called for a hearing on the impact of the Israeli blockade of Gaza on women. On her US tour, MK Touma-Sliman had planned to address Israeli-stoked violence in Gaza and the continued theft of land and homes, but instead will address this new piece of legislation that effectively legalizes apartheid.
